DSBL final 2017 in Berlin
The Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club is making the final battle for the championship trophy exciting. The DTYC and NRV stumbled at the start in Berlin

The omens seemed clear: the German Touring Yacht Club (DTYC) was preparing to win the German Sailing Club Championship for the third time in a row. Having travelled to Berlin as league leaders, the team led by helmsman Julian Stückl is aiming to complete the hat-trick in front of the jetties of the host club Seglerhaus am Wannsee. But there are also the two-time champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein in Hamburg, who won the title in the early years of the league in 2013 and 2014 before the southern club DTYC took over. The team around helmsman Tobi Schadewaldt is in action for the NRV. The experts thought it would be decided between these two this weekend.

But then this: after the first of three final days, the Segel- und Motorbootclub Überlingen (SMCÜ) with helmsman Julian Stückl and his third place in Berlin has taken over the top position in the league's current lightning table for the time being after five of a maximum of 16 rounds and a total of 48 races. This is also because the NRV and the DTYC were only in 9th and 11th place after their first five races. This initially dropped them to 2nd (DTYC) and 3rd (NRV) in the league table.

Surprise on the evening of the first day: The Segel- und Motorboot Club Überlingen has taken over the lead in the standings for the time being with an interim third place in Berlin. How this came about in the battle with the club giants DTYC and NARV...

However, all title contenders still have a maximum of eleven more races to put their own stamp on the regatta after a surprising first day. The Lindau Sailing Club got off to the ideal start in Berlin on Thursday, leading the intermediate classification in the capital city final ahead of the Potsdam Yacht Club and the SMCÜ. At the same time, the hosts from VSaW messed up their first appearance with 6th, 6th, 4th, 6th and 2nd place, putting them in penultimate place ahead of the bottom-placed team from Schweriner Yacht-Club. At the end of the day, however, 2nd place in the fifth flight gave Tim Elsner's team hope for improvement. Participants and spectators alike on the VSaW grounds and at home can look forward to two more exciting league finals days.
